CBD's Impact On Memory With Blood Flow
There is evidence that CBD (cannabidiol) affects memory in a positive manner. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has been associated with memory impairments. CBD protects against this potential impairment.
CBD‘s Impact On Memory With Blood Flow
Various research suggests that CBD may also be helpful for disorders related to memory, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and addiction. It has even been termed a nootropic, intended to improve performance and counter age-related cognitive decline. CBD exerts these effects in a less understood manner, however.
University College of London scientists investigated the mechanism behind CBD‘s effect on memory recently. Researchers studied cerebral blood flow (CBF), or the flow of blood in veins and arteries in the brain. There have never been studies investigating the relationship between regional cerebral blood flow and memory task performance in CBD-induced acute memory deficits, according to the researchers.
Fasting subjects ingested 600 mg CBD capsules or a placebo three hours before performing cerebral blood flow measurements. The hippocampus, amygdala, and orbitofrontal cortex were scanned in order to study memory-related brain areas. Additionally, they obtained blood samples. After 4.5–5.5 hours later, the subjects completed a series of memory tests. Specifically, the prose recall or episodic memory, the N-back task, and digit span or working memory. All participants underwent both CBD and placebo trials.
Statistical analysis revealed that CBD caused a significant increase in cerebral blood flow to the hippocampus while a less than significant increase in the OFC. CBD-induced stimulation of the OFC was significantly correlated with the N-back task, the exception being CBD-induced blood flow to the OFC because the OFC is involved in working memory, particularly emotion and/or face processing working memory.
Ultimately, the researchers conclude that “higher hippocampal blood flow confers better memory performance,” a finding that could have major implications on disorders affecting the hippocampi. A few of these are Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Subjects, other than those with neurological disorders, did not exhibit any adverse effects from CBD. Nonetheless, we remain in the dark about the mechanisms governing CBD’s memory effects
Derivatives of hemp have already been discovered to have a number of health benefits such as pain relief, anxiety relief, and sleep aid. A study has previously shown that CBD could help people to prevent hypertension by affecting blood pressure levels. In order to treat high blood pressure, several individuals turn to CBD.
Our minds are incredibly powerful, storing all of our memories and controlling our bodies. We create discoveries, feel emotions, and connect with each other through these incredible organs. In addition to memory loss, the brain appears to be vulnerable to a variety of mental disorders. The human mind is capable of failing us, which can make us feel like we are failing. There is some evidence that CBD can potentially help with these problems.
