A Beginners Guide To The Therapeutic Use of Hemp-Derived CBD Oil

Using CBD Oil in Managing, Arthritis, Sleep Disorders, Anxiety, Diabetes and Cancer

In the mid-1950s the government’s classification of cannabis stopped funding for its research. Later in the late 1960s and early 1970s the identification of tetrahydrocannabinol delta-9 THC as a psychoactive as well as cannabidiol, CBD as a medicinal non-psychoactive component of cannabis. This classification of cannabis negatively impacted the ability to carry out research or clinical studies on humans.

Also as a result of this classification of cannabis, there is a severe lack of funding for the research of the medical benefits of cannabis despite its promising results from the treatment of cancer, anxiety, pain, and a host of other medical conditions that medicine is grabbing to find a cure for.

Cannabis is a flowering plant and is mainly made up of three major species: Sativa, Indica, and Ruderalis. A genetic modification in a combination of these three major species delivers 500 different strains of the cannabis plant.

Cannabis plants have over 480 chemical constituents which can be broken down into three major classes, cannabinoids, terpenoids, and flavonoids. It is the terpenoids and flavonoids that give cannabis that significant smell and taste but they also have some therapeutic values.

Of the 112 known cannabinoids with the famous ones being tetrahydrocannabinol, THC, cannabidiol, CBD, and cannabigerol, CBG. They are found in the oils which are secreted by the trichomes, which are small glands found at the base of the flower of the female cannabis plant.

Cannabis has several active substances known as cannabinoids. There are 2 separate types of cannabinoids, those that have a psychoactive effect on humans, the highness effect which Tetra hydroxy cannabinol THC is prominent for, and the medicinal cannabinoids which cannabidiol, CBD is prominent for.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, CBD is the largest and second most prominent cannabinoid compound found in the cannabis plant after tetrahydrocannabinol THC. A lot of the medical benefits of cannabis that were contributed to THC or other cannabinoids are predominantly from the CBD content of the cannabis plant.

CBD is non-psychoactive and extracted from the hemp plant. CBD is the primary naturally occurring medical content in hemp. CBD belongs to the cannabinoid family but its effects are remarkably different from THC. CBD is completely non-psychoactive, non-intoxicating, and has no lethargy. In fact, it blocks the intoxicating effects of THC. CBD oil may be effective against epilepsy, menstrual cramps, arthritis and it also has some anti-proliferation properties that prevent cancer cells from spreading.

Hemp, cannabis, marijuana aren’t they the same thing?

Is it not just for people who just wanna get high?

With research and personal experience, I realized the true healing potential of the simple but most misunderstood plant that has been in existence for generations. Organically grown hemp without pesticides comes with a full spectrum of all the cannabinoids present.

These are groups of chemical compounds found in the cannabis plants that affect the mind and body because of their interaction with special cannabinoid receptors found in all organs in the body. These receptors are extensively present throughout the Immune, Reproductive, Digestive, Peripheral, and Central Nervous System in all humans and animals. Their activation is what leads to the medicinal effects of cannabis.

Cannabinoids can be derived from

  • the cannabis plant-phytocannabinoids
  • man-made or synthesized in the laboratory-fake Marijuana, K2, Spice
  • endocannabinoids-the ones that are naturally present in our body.

A list of some prominent cannabinoids in cannabis

  • Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol-THC is the most popular cannabinoid and the most active component that makes marijuana psychoactive. Psychoativity of  THC means it has the capacity to alter behavior mood perception and gives a euphoric feeling.
  • THC-A is the acidic form of THC and is non-psychoactive. It is a compound that cannot diffuse into the brain. It is very unstable and broken down into THC by the application of heat however research shows that THC-A has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Cannabidiol-CBN When THC is exposed to light or heat, the resulting compound is CBN. This is somewhat psychoactive and diffuses into the brain cells. It is the most medically significant psychoactive compound in cannabis.
  • Cannabidiol-CBD This is the most important medicinal cannabinoid. It is non-psychoactive and diffuses into the brain. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, anti-anxiety, neuroprotective, and blood pressure-lowering properties among other benefits. It also mitigates against the negative effects of THC on the brain.
  • Cannabidiol Acid- CBD-A is the acidic form of CBD. It can easily be converted to CBD by the application of heat.

the Entourage effect of cannabinoids

The Entourage Effect of  cannabinoids basically means that all the cannabinoids work together to release the entire medical effects of cannikins. It is not just THC or CBD in isolation. Everything works in synergy to help with many different symptoms  however it is the same genetic effect of these cannabinoids present in trace amounts and CBD oil that works together to yield the wonderful medicinal results that CBD oil is known for.

Pharmacology of the endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system was discovered in the mid-1980s by an Israeli organic chemist and professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Along with other chemists, the team discovered the system was about balance and it affects every system throughout the body. They also discovered that some deficiencies that we suffer from are a result of some deficiencies in some cannabinoids and they came to the conclusion that taking the cannabinoids in an extracted form will go a long way to maintain balance in our systems.

endocannabinoid system

In the early 1990s, the team discovered that there are cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 receptors throughout the bodies organs. CB1 can be mostly found in the central nervous system mainly the nerves and brain and CB2 is concentrated in peripheral tissues, tonsils, spleen, and different organs in the abdomen and immune cells. Both CB1 and CB2 receptors indulge in these cannabinoids which means when cannabis is used it binds to these receptors.

The team also discovered that the system has been working since birth to maintain balance. The receptors are produced when needed and rapidly degrade into inactive substances. The endocannabinoids bind like a lock to the CB1 receptors which causes the secretion of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin that affect mood.

Scientific method for testing hemp plant for CBD content and purity

It was difficult to get cannabis plants with high CBD content. Almost all cannabis plants tested were high in THC anywhere from 10% to 20%. With continuous tests carried out on different cannabis strains over time, it was discovered that the cannabis Indica strain is richer in CBD, unlike the Sativa.

The only way you can tell the actual percentage and purity of CBD in a cannabis plant is through content testing. Although the cannabis Indica strain has been discovered to have a higher CBD content and low THC, it can still be tested to reveal the exact percentage of each component and their level of purity. CBD can be tested significantly using high-performance local chromatography in the laboratory. CBD can be extracted from industrial hemp with the CO2 extraction method considered  the best because of its ability to preserve high concentration of flavonoids however this process requires extensive laboratory equipment.    –

The Content of Hemp oil

The hemp plant is known for its high yielding seeds. Most hemp oil does not contain any detectable THC. However, some oil contains trace amounts of THC which may result from the seed harvesting and extracting process. It is always between 0.025% to 1% of the total oil. To eliminate this trace amount of THC, it is washed or the hemp seed is shelled before pressing it.

CBD Hemp Oil has a remarkable fatty acid profile and the desired Omega 3 and linoleic acid which is important but absent in the fatty foods we normally eat. Occasionally, hemp oil and CBD oil are used interchangeably but there is a remarkable difference between these two oils.

While CBD oil is extracted mainly from the hemp buds and leaves, hemp oil is extracted from the hemp seeds. Hemp oil is cold-pressed from the hempseed. Hemp oil  is used for industrial products such as ropes, textiles, paper, and biodegradable plastics.

The Nutritional Value of Hemp oil

Hemp Oil Benefits

The typical western diet does not provide the right balance of omega-6 to omega-3 which is supposed to be a 3 to 1 ratio. Excessive Omega 6 can cause inflammation in the body which leads to other related health conditions. Omega-3 fatty acids, on the other hand, is an anti-inflammatory agent that reacts to the pro-inflammatory properties of Omega 6, unfortunately omega-6 fatty acid is found in high concentration in our regular vegetable oils, sesame oil, sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, etc. Hemp oil is rich in Omega-3.  A tablespoon of high quality hemp oil contains approximately 2 grams of Omega-3. High blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases can be linked to the presence of high omega-6 fatty acids in the blood. Hemp oil consumptions provide this critical ratio balance for a healthy body. Taking Omega 3 from hemp oil may prevent cardiovascular disease.  Hemp oil can be consumed as raw unheated oil sprinkled over salad or other meals with sauces, soups and salad. Hemp oil consumptions provide this critical ratio balance for a healthy body.

Hemp Oil For Your Skin

Hemp Oil contains vitamin E, antioxidants, and beta-carotene, 3 compounds that help maintain a glowing and healthy skin. Regular intake of Hemp Oil has proved to be a skin lubricant, internal moisturizer, and skin tissue softner. It is also good treatment for eczema and dermatitis. Hemp oil has been found to be the magical formula to treat stubborn acne that would not go away. It has also been found to treat dryness and itching associated with dermititis revealed by a clinical study in Finland.

Hemp Oil is also used to liven up dull and brittle hair. Add a teaspoon of hemp oil to shampoo and apply it to your hair to moisturize and improve the elasticity. Hemp oil also may prevent dandruff. Hemp oil is easily absorbed by the scalp, linoleic acid contained in hemp oil, balances out hormones and may prevent conditions such as mood swings, which are associated with hormonal imbalance. Hemp Oil may be great for women that suffer from heavy menstrual periods or in menopause.

Benefits of CBD oil

In the United States, a lot of people suffer from pain and there’s a lot of evidence concerning the physiology of pain management and the use of cannabis. Evidence shows that CBD suppresses pain associated with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and other syndromes that has no known cause which may just be a deficiency in the endocannabinoid system.

Obtaining the medical benefit of CBD oil is a process just like you need to exercise your body to get a perfect body shape the CBD therapy requires a minimum of 90 days to see the therapeutic potentials of CBD on a patient

This powerful oil may heal diseases that medical science says is incurable. CBD Oil may be the answer to the suffering masses. CBD oil is about healing. There is mounting evidence that hemp-derived extracts containing CBD provide anti-inflammatory and analgesic’s benefits

CBD oil and Anxiety

Anxiety is certianly a common condition which can absolutely inflict great damage on a person’s life. There are many pharmaceutical drugs that can be used treat anxiety, but many have harmful side effects that include headaches, drowsiness and sexual dysfunction. Several studies have taken place, and CBD oil has shown lots of potential in helping with anxiety because of the way  CBD interacts with the  brain to regulate mood and social behavior.

A study on speech and anxiety showed that individuals who received CBD before speaking were less anxious than others who only received a placebo.

Daily Stress and depression and CBD Oil

There are many sorts of stress and plenty of ways to handle it, but if you let it compile, you’ll find yourself feeling down and depressed.

The possible benefits of CBD oil, when used in spite of  antidepressant medications, have been favorable and this can be due to the way CBD works with receptors in our central and nervous system, called CB1 and CB2. Just like using CBD oil for anxiety, CBD oil could potentially help with depression by altering serotonin signals.

The Many Ways to take CBD

CBD oil can be consumed in several different ways; here are the most common:

1. CBD Oil Tincture: A form of oral CBD oil ingestion. CBD tinctures are sold in dropper bottles. Simply use the dropper and place one or two drops under your tongue so it will be absorbed in your mucous membranes instead of going through your stomach where your body wont receive all the dose.

2. CBD Gummies: CBD gummies are treats that have been infused with CBD oil and come in different flavors. Simply eat a gummy for your dose of CBD.

3. CBD Capsules: CBD oils can be created in the form of a capsule. Ingest it like conventional medicine.

4. CBD Cream: CBD topicals are also called CBD creams; these are infused with CBD, and they penetrate the skin. The best CBD creams are made with “nano-CBD.” This is CBD that is broken down small enough to penetrate the skin and be absorbed by your blood stream for targeted relief.

5.CBD Vaping: This is the quickest way to receive the benefits from CBD since it is absorbed into your bloodstream through your lungs. You can use either CBD Oil Cartridges or use CBD flower in a vaping device.
